Ankeruhr
Austria
Stand on the Hoher Markt in Vienna's old town and look up at the passage where the Bauernmarkt runs between the two halves of the Ankerhof. The clock is not on a tower or a wall but on a bridge, slung across the street to join the buildings. That bridge spans ten metres and stands seven and a half metres high, and the clock face itself is four metres across. It is one of the standout works of Jugendstil, the Viennese take on Art Nouveau, and it rarely lacks an audience.
