Burg Klamm
Austria
You reach Burg Klamm by crossing a wooden bridge over the outer ditch, a bridge rebuilt from old pictures, and it brings you to a gatehouse that is itself a modern addition. The castle sits at 870 metres above the Adriatic, within the municipality of Obsteig in the Imst district of Tyrol, below the road that links Nassereith with Mötz. Steep slopes fall away on three sides. What holds your eye is the tower: round, massive and crowned with square battlements, standing apart from everything else. The palas, the residential hall, lies lower down and a little way off.
