Burg Losenstein
Austria
Look up from the centre of Losenstein and the ruin is already watching you. It sits on a dolomite crag, the Burgfelsen, roughly 60 metres above the village, and it counts among the largest and oldest castle ruins in Upper Austria. What survives is mostly outer wall, but the walls still hold their Gothic window openings, arrow slits and broad gateway arches, and the ruin is freely accessible, so you can walk in and read the place room by room: church, living quarters, courtyard, working rooms.
