Chrám sv. Mikuláša
Slovakia
You climb to reach it. The Church of St Nicholas in Bodružal, in the Svidník district of eastern Slovakia, stands on the highest rise in the village, above every other building and house, and that is the first thing to notice. This is a wooden Greek Catholic church of the Byzantine rite, dedicated to St Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia. It dates from 1658, which places it among the oldest wooden sacred buildings of the Byzantine rite in Slovakia, and since 8 July 2008 it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
