Císařské lázně
Czechia
Walk to the southern edge of Karlovy Vary, to Mariánskolázeňská 306/2, and the building announces itself before you reach the door. Císařské lázně, the Imperial Baths, now also called Lázně I, was at the height of its fame the centre of spa treatment in the town. Since 2010 it has been protected as a national cultural monument. Look up above the main entrance and you find the Karlovy Vary coat of arms, and around it a roll of names: Václav Payer, David Becher, Eduard Hlawaczek, Gallus von Hochberger, Rudolf Mannl, the town's most celebrated physicians. It is worth noticing who is missing.
