Dominikánský klášter
Czechia
Stand in front of the basilica of St Lawrence and St Zdislava in Jablonné v Podještědí and you are looking at a Baroque church built over a much older story. A small community of Dominican friars still lives in the monastery beside it. The house was founded around 1250 by Havel of Lemberk and his wife Zdislava, who was later declared a saint. She was buried in the church of St Lawrence, and almost everything that happened here afterwards, the pilgrimages, the rebuildings and the long campaign to bring the friars back, comes back to her grave. The first friars probably came from Brno or from Cologne; the source does not settle which.
