Falkenberk
Czechia
Falkenberk, also called Starý Falkenburk, is the ruin of a castle on Sokol hill in the Lusatian Mountains, in the cadastral area of Heřmanice v Podještědí, part of the town of Jablonné v Podještědí in the Liberec district. Do not come expecting towers. The castle was probably founded at the start of the fifteenth century and had ceased to exist before that century was half over, and what survives are small relics of wall. Those remains are protected as a cultural monument. The name joins the German Falke, falcon, with Burg, castle, or Berg, mountain, so it echoes the Czech name of the hill itself. The scribes never agreed on spelling: in Falkenberg in 1415, in Falkenburg in 1416, Falckenberg in 1423, Ffalkinburg in 1427, Falkingerg in 1428 and Falckhenwergkh in 1454.
