Ganymedova fontána
Slovakia
Stand in Hviezdoslavovo námestie, in the heart of Bratislava, facing the main entrance of the old Municipal Theatre, and the fountain in front of you will seem to belong to the building rather than to the square. That is deliberate. The theatre was completed in 1886, and the space before its doors was filled by a neo-Baroque fountain from the Bratislava sculptor Viktor Tilgner. He subordinated his design entirely to the theatre, shaping the fountain so that it would complement the building's monumental bulk rather than compete with it. Ever since, the two have formed a single architectural whole.
