Gombasecká jaskyňa

Slovakia

The entrance sits low, at 250 metres above sea level, at the western foot of the Silica Plateau in the valley of the River Slaná, roughly 15 kilometres south of Rožňava. This is the heart of Slovak Karst National Park, and the cave lies across the cadastral land of four villages: Slavec, Plešivec, Silická Brezová and Silica. It was not stumbled upon. Volunteer cavers from Rožňava dug their way in on 21 November 1951 by excavating the Black Resurgence, the spring where underground water reaches daylight. Of the cave's 1,525 metres, only 300 have been open to visitors, and they have been open since 1955.
