Hradiště Zámčisko
Czechia
Hradiště Zámčisko, also known as Hrad Návsí, is easy to confuse with the similarly named Zamčiska in nearby Hrádek, so be sure which hill you are climbing. This one rises above the village of Návsí, on a promontory where the Jasení stream meets the river Olše. It was one of several guard castles built in the Jablunkov Pass before the 14th century. Archaeologists suggest it may have been founded in that earlier period and was probably still standing in the 15th. Do not expect ruins. This was a castle built largely of timber, with no stone buildings and no stone foundations, so what survives is earth that people once shaped.
