Karlův most
Czechia
Step onto the cobbles at the Old Town end and you are on the oldest bridge still standing over the Vltava in Prague, and the second oldest surviving bridge in the country. It runs 515.76 metres to Malá Strana, about nine and a half metres wide, with the roadway 13 metres above the river's normal level. Sixteen arches carry you across. Their spans widen from 16.62 metres on the Old Town bank to 23.38 metres, so the bridge is not quite the same from one end to the other. Watch the line ahead and you will notice it is not straight either. It bends three times and bulges very slightly upstream. This is also part of the historic royal route, so the crowd you are walking with is following a much older procession.
