Katedrála Svatého Ducha
Czechia
Stand in the south-western corner of Velké náměstí and look up. Two brick towers, 48 metres tall, rise over a Gothic pseudobasilica that has shaped the skyline of Hradec Králové for more than seven centuries. This is the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, the main church of the Hradec Králové diocese and the seat of its bishop. It is not vast: 56 metres long and 25 wide on the outside, with an interior of 50 metres. But the walls are serious, from 1.12 metres thick along the naves to 2.12 metres in the towers, and you feel that heft as soon as you step through the door.
