Katedrálny chrám povýšenia Svätého kríža
Slovakia
You reach it through a cemetery, which is the first clue to its odd history. The Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Venerable and Life-Giving Cross stands on Ondrejský cintorín, St Andrew's Cemetery, in Bratislava's Staré Mesto. Today it is the seat of a Greek Catholic bishop, but it was never built to be a cathedral at all. It began as a cemetery chapel for the Roman Catholic Church, and its path from one to the other runs through neglect, a borrowing and a gift. The nearest stop carries the cemetery's name, Ondrejský cintorín (Cintorínska).
