Kobyliská střelnice
Czechia
Kobyliská střelnice opened in 1890 as a military firing range on the edge of what was then the village of Kobylisy, north of Prague. It was built to train infantry, but it soon became a place for an outing as well. Military bands gave concerts here, a stable was set up and people practised riding. After the First World War, civic corps, the Sokol movement and other clubs came to shoot too. When a new street was laid out towards Prosek in 1938, it was named Střelničná after the range. Hold onto that ordinary, almost cheerful picture as you walk in, because the rest of the story overturns it.
