Kokořín
Czechia
Kokořín sits roughly ten kilometres north-east of Mělník, above the little Pšovka stream in the Dokeská pahorkatina uplands, close to the village that shares its name. The castle matters to this landscape so much that part of the protected area around it is simply called Kokořínsko. As you come up the marked paths, the round lookout tower, 38 metres tall, is what you notice first. What you are looking at, though, is two castles: a medieval one, and the one someone decided to rebuild from its ruins.
