Kostel Dobrého pastýře

Czechia

Podhradí has exactly one church, and this is it: the Evangelical Church of the Good Shepherd, in the Cheb district at the far western tip of the country. Walk up and the shape gives you its history before any plaque could. The tower is the old part, square at its base, turning eight-sided in the upper storey and capped with an onion dome. Against it sits a rectangular nave under a tall roof, with small chapels pushing out on either side. What you are looking at is a Baroque building grown out of an earlier, smaller church, first extended and then rebuilt.
