Kostel sv. Anny

Czechia

Kostel sv. Anny stands in the middle of Andělka, set into the slope above the road with the village cemetery beside it. What you see is a plain late-Baroque church, built between 1783 and 1785 by the Liberec builder Johann Joseph Kunz and paid for by Count Christian Philipp Clam-Gallas. It was not the first church here. It replaced an older wooden church, already recorded in the middle of the 15th century, and fragments of that predecessor are said to survive in the lower part of the presbytery wall and in the eastern part of the nave. The source does not explain how a timber church left traces in masonry, so read that as a claim worth looking for rather than a settled picture. The building is protected as a cultural monument.
