Kostel svaté Markéty

Czechia

Stand in front of the Church of St Margaret in Bludovice, now part of Havířov in the Karviná district, and the first thing you take in is the tower. It is not a separate spire but a squared block set right into the middle of the façade, its corners rounded off, stepping forward slightly from the front wall before rising to an onion-shaped dome with a small lantern on top. You walk into the church through the base of that tower, under a round-arched portal, and above the door a niche holds a statue of Christ. It is the parish church of the Havířov parish, in the Karviná deanery of the Ostrava-Opava diocese, and it has been on the state list of protected monuments since 1974.
