Lednice Castle
zámek Lednice
Neo-Gothic Liechtenstein summer seat on the Dyje, with a vast landscaped garden.
Lednice Castle stands on the right bank of the Dyje, about 12 km east of Mikulov, and is among the most striking complexes in the country. The Liechtensteins acquired the estate at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries and held it for nearly 700 years. The castle was first built in the 16th century in Renaissance form and remodelled in the Baroque at the end of the 17th, but its present appearance comes from an extensive mid-19th-century rebuild imitating English Tudor Gothic. A garden surrounded it as early as the 16th century.
