Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape
Lednicko-valtický areál
283 km² shaped into a single park by one family — Europe's largest composed landscape.
The Lednice-Valtice area is a 283 km² stretch of the Břeclav district running to the Austrian border, and it is usually described as the largest composed landscape in Europe — possibly in the world. Through the 18th and 19th centuries the princely Liechtenstein family shaped the whole of it into a designed park: castles, follies, avenues, ponds and woods laid out as one composition rather than as separate estates. It joined the UNESCO World Heritage list in December 1996, and in 1992 it had already been declared, together with the Slavkov battlefield, one of the first two landscape heritage zones in the Czech Republic. The Pálava protected landscape area adjoins it to the north-west.
