Stand in front of the entrance façade and look up at the balcony before anything else. Two pairs of chubby Rococo putti sit there: one pair holds a globe and stands for Geography, the other holds a telescope and stands for Astronomy. Two vases flank them, and above, on the façade, is a pair of alliance coats of arms. These figures were not part of the original plan. Count Arnošt Josef Pachta of Rájov had the château built between 1699 and 1706 to a design by Giovanni Battista Alliprandi, working from a concept by J. B. Fischer von Erlach, but Alliprandi left out the sculptural decoration. The sculptor Ignác František Platzer added it in the second half of the eighteenth century, after 1770, and the frescoes of the sala terrena date from the same time. It is easy to see why the house is often called a Baroque pearl.
