Neuberg

Czechia

Only one piece of Neuberg is left standing, and you see it long before you understand it. It is a round tower, 22 metres high, on a rocky spur in the village of Podhradí u Aše in the Cheb district. The spur itself rises 29.5 metres, so the masonry seems to grow straight out of the rock. Walk around the base and you have covered the tower's whole circumference of 19.2 metres in a couple of dozen paces. Everything else that once made this a castle is gone. What remains is still counted as the oldest monument in the Aš region. The castle goes by Neuberk or Najperk too, depending on who is speaking.
