Nové Mlýny reservoirs

Vodní dílo Nové Mlýny

The Nové Mlýny waterworks is a cascade of three reservoirs on the river Dyje below the Pavlovské vrchy, on the boundary of the Břeclav and Brno-venkov districts, named after the settlement below the lowest dam. It was built between 1974 and 1989 to prevent flooding and to raise agricultural output through a large system of irrigation canals. It covers around 3,200 hectares, and it changed this landscape permanently — the water you see from Pálava is younger than most people looking at it.
