Otto Wagner Villa II
Austria
Stand on Hüttelbergstraße in Hütteldorf, out in Vienna's 14th district of Penzing, and you are looking at two chapters of one architect's life side by side. At number 28 is the smaller of them: the Villa Wagner II, built to Otto Wagner's plans in 1912 and 1913. Next door is its predecessor, Villa Wagner I, which Wagner sold in 1911 to the variety-theatre entrepreneur Ben Tieber. Having let the first house go, he did not move far. From 1912 he raised this second villa on the neighbouring plot, a more modest building in reinforced concrete.
