Pavlovské vrchy
White limestone ridge running 20 km south from the Dyje to the Austrian border.
The Pavlovské vrchy — Pálava in everyday speech — are a limestone range forming the higher western part of the Mikulov Highlands. They run from the bend of the Dyje at the Věstonice gate twenty kilometres south past Mikulov to the Austrian border. They are not high in absolute terms, topping out at Děvín's 550 metres, but they rise so abruptly from flat country that they read as mountains from a long way off. The name comes from the village of Pavlov.
