Ruine Peggau
Austria
Ruine Peggau sits on a rock spur south-east of the village of Peggau in Styria, where the Mitterbachgraben opens out into the Mur valley. On three sides, north, east and west, the rock falls away steeply, which explains why anyone bothered to build here at all. The only easy approach is from the south, across a saddle, and that is still the way the site makes sense to you: you come at it from the one side that was ever meant to let people in, through a gate in the south wall.
