Ruine Thürndl
Austria
Ruine Thürndl sits on the southern tip of a mountain ridge that runs from the Barmsteine to the heights above Hallein. It is a single broken tower, its footprint roughly 9 by 10 metres, and it stands only about 300 metres east of the municipal boundary of Marktschellenberg. That boundary is also the state border between Germany and Austria, so you are standing on the very edge of Austria, on ground that belongs to the town of Hallein. The older names, 'Schozzries' or 'Schoßrisen', still turn up in the historical record.
