Sandberg
Slovakia
Sandberg, also called Pieskovec, the sandpit, was never meant to be a monument. It was found by people digging sand. What they exposed, on the south-western edge of the Little Carpathians Protected Landscape Area within the Bratislava borough of Devínska Nová Ves, turned out to be one of the most important palaeontological sites in the region. Stand at the foot of the pale wall and you are looking at the floor of a sea, cut open by quarrying and left that way.
