Schloss Liesing
Austria
You find Schloss Liesing at Perchtoldsdorfer Straße 6, in Vienna's 23rd district, set inside a large park. It was once a moated castle, a Wasserschloss, and it has not survived in full, so what stands in front of you is less a single intact monument than a building that has been reshaped by many owners. Its story starts modestly. When it first appears in the records, in 1387, it is not a castle at all but a farmstead known as "Hausgraben" or "Auhof". Between 1415 and 1435 it belonged to the local judge Georg Zeitlas, then passed to the priest Andreas Plank von Gars, later chancellor to Albrecht II, who gave the estate to Vienna's Dorotheerkloster.
