sv. Michal

Czechia

Stand on Školní náměstí, in the northern part of Rýmařov's historic core, and the Church of St Michael gives you its west front first: a square tower set squarely on the axis, topped by a metal-clad helm with a lantern and an onion dome. Behind it runs a slate-covered saddle roof, with a small sanctus turret finished in its own onion. You are at 605 metres above sea level here, and the church has stood on this spot, in one form or another, since the town itself was founded in the second half of the thirteenth century. Today it is a filial church of the Rýmařov parish, within the Bruntál deanery of the Diocese of Ostrava-Opava.
