sv. Mořic
Czechia
The church of St Maurice sits on Mouřenec, a prominent hill in a meander of the River Otava, half a kilometre south-west of Annín in the Klatovy district. You climb to it, and the reward is a building that has been altered in almost every century since it was founded as a late-Romanesque church between 1220 and 1230. Its dedication to St Maurice hints at a link with the Bavarian Benedictine monastery of Niederaltaich, whose activity around Sušice is documented a little before the middle of the thirteenth century. The first written mention dates from 1360, as confirmation documents suggest.
