sv. Vojtěch
Czechia
Stand on Opava's Dolní náměstí and the church fills one side of your view: a monumental single-nave Jesuit building, protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It was not the first church here. It replaced a small Gothic church founded before 1350, which was dedicated to St George in the 16th century, and that is why older references call this St George's. The building dates itself in two ways depending on where you look. One passage gives construction as 1675 to 1681, another as 1675 to 1678, so treat the finishing date as uncertain. In front stands a Marian column, also from 1675.
