svatá Markéta

Czechia

Before you study a single window, notice the colour. The Church of St Margaret in Zvole is faced in fired brick left bare, without plaster, exactly as the architect Josef Mocker designed it. It is the dominant building of the village and a listed cultural monument, and it stands on a raised stone plinth that lifts it a step above everything around it. Today it belongs to the Catholic Church, under the Roman Catholic parish of Praha-Zbraslav. What you see is a pseudo-Gothic building of 1892–1894, but the ground beneath it has carried a church for far longer.
