svätého Ducha

Slovakia

The church sits on a rise above the village of Žehra, in the Spišská Nová Ves district of eastern Slovakia, and the first thing you notice from below is the roof of its tower: an onion dome clad in wooden shingles, an unusual cap for a building whose bones are late Romanesque. That roof was added in 1769, centuries after the walls beneath it. The church belongs to a small group of two-aisled churches found in the Spiš region, and since 1993 it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the site of Levoča, Spiš Castle and the associated monuments.
