svatý Apolinář

Czechia

You reach the Church of St Apollinaris by climbing. It stands on Apolinářská Street, on a rise in Prague's New Town called Větrov, and the name, which suggests a windy hill, turns out to matter to its story. This is a single-naved Gothic church with a narrower presbytery, heavy external buttresses and rib vaulting, built in the second half of the fourteenth century on the initiative of Charles IV. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It is still a Roman Catholic parish seat, although that parish has in practice carried out no activity since 2024. In the same year it became the parish church of a Vietnamese Roman Catholic community, which holds Mass here regularly.
