svatý Benedikt
Czechia
You find it on the south-west side of Hradčany Square, beside the Town Hall Steps, the Radniční schody, where the crowds heading for the castle tend to walk straight past. St Benedict's was built shortly after the town of Hradčany itself was founded in the first half of the fourteenth century, as its parish church, on open ground. It is first mentioned in writing in 1353, and by 1377 a graveyard surrounded it. Today it belongs to the Discalced Carmelite friars and their monastery, known as Fortna. The church is regularly open to anyone who wants to look round, pray or simply sit in silence. The monastery opens from Tuesday to Thursday, or for special events and programmes.
