svatý Jiljí

Czechia

Its slender tower climbs to 66 metres and, together with the town walls, makes the outline people recognise as Nymburk. Nobody has found a document recording when the church was founded. Historians reason from its style, and from a late 13th-century charter of Přemysl Otakar II founding the town's Dominican friary, that the parish church must have begun with the town itself. It was then dedicated to St Nicholas, and took the name of St Giles only during the Thirty Years' War.
