svatý Mikuláš
Czechia
You find the cathedral a few steps from the north-east corner of náměstí Přemysla Otakara II, in the centre of České Budějovice. Beside it rises the Černá věž, the Black Tower, which also serves as the cathedral's bell tower, and in front stands a statue of Bishop Jan Valerián Jirsík. This is the principal church of the České Budějovice diocese, dedicated to St Nicholas. Its foundation stone was laid around 1265, shortly after the royal town itself was founded. The high altar was consecrated around 1297, although the building was probably not yet complete. The main structure seems to have been finished only around the middle of the fourteenth century.
