svatý Palmácius
Czechia
Stand at the top of the steep steps in Budňany and turn round. Across the River Berounka, Karlštejn Castle fills the view, and this small church sits in the foreground of that picture, as it has since the castle was new. It was founded in 1351, three years after building on the castle began, as a Gothic chapel that Charles IV had raised for the masons, stonecutters and other craftsmen who worked on Karlštejn and settled in the village beneath it. Its dedication is unique in the country: it is the only church in Czechia named for St Palmatius.
