svatý Tomáš
Czechia
Step off the bustle of Malá Strana and into the Church of St Thomas, and the first thing you notice is how dim it is. That gloom is deliberate history. In a rebuilding between 1727 and 1731, the great windows of the nave were swapped for smaller ones in a chasuble shape and the windows of the five-sided choir were walled up, so the interior darkened. What surrounds you now is high Baroque stucco by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer, with a dome over the choir, laid like a stage set over walls that are Gothic at their core.
