Svatý Václav
Czechia
Stand in the middle of Žinkovy and the Church of St Wenceslas is the building the little town arranges itself around. What you see is Baroque, but it is a replacement, built in a hurry after disaster. A parish church is first recorded here in 1352, and that earlier building was Gothic. Archaeological finds suggest something older still stood on the spot before the Gothic church. Since 1963 the whole ensemble, not just the church but its enclosing wall, chapels and statues, has been protected as a cultural monument, so treat the wall and gate as part of the visit rather than an obstacle on the way in.
