svatý Vavřinec
Czechia
The Church of St Lawrence in Velim sits just off the village green, close enough that you reach it almost without deciding to. It is a single-nave building of rough, broken stone, and it is oriented in the traditional way, its altar end turned towards the east. Before you look at the church properly, notice its neighbour: a square bell tower with an upper storey, standing apart from the nave and dating from the 18th century. The two read as a pair, the low stone church and the separate tower, and the whole group is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
