The Upper Synagogue below the castle — the last one left of many.
The synagogue in Mikulov today means a single building: the former synagogue on Husova street, directly below the castle. Known as the Upper Synagogue, Altschul, the Old, Great or Cathedral synagogue, it is the oldest Jewish house of prayer in the town. The name in the singular is itself the history — Mikulov was one of Moravia's most important Jewish centres, and this is what remains.
