Trenninghof
Austria
Look for the tower first. On the valley side of the Trenninghof a tall tower rises under a steep wedge-shaped roof, and it is the easiest way to pick the house out at the northern foot of the Trenning, in the Spitzer Graben, the side valley that runs inland from the Danube near Spitz. This is a Ansitz, a fortified manor rather than a castle proper, within the municipality of Mühldorf and inside the Wachau's UNESCO World Heritage landscape. What you see today is largely Renaissance, laid over a medieval farmstead whose Gothic vaults still survive inside.
