Wasserturm Favoriten
Austria
From the south you see it long before you reach it: a brick tower standing on the crest of the Wienerberg, at Windtenstraße 3, the landmark of Vienna's 10th district, Favoriten. The style is industrial historicism, which here means a working piece of plumbing dressed with the seriousness of a monument. Franz Borkowitz designed it, and it went up between 1898 and 1899. Part of the stone came from Kaisersteinbruch: hard Kaiserstein from the Hausbruch quarry, and Neukaiserstein from the Kapellenbruch quarry belonging to the Amelin family. Today the tower is a listed building.
