Wilhelmswarte

Austria

The Wilhelmswarte is not a tall tower, and it does not pretend to be. It is a round stone lookout ten metres high, standing on the summit of the Hochanninger, the highest point of the Anninger at 675 metres above the Adriatic, within the municipality of Gaaden in the Wienerwald. It looks more like a small castle keep than a viewing platform: a round plan, a pointed-arch doorway, solid masonry. It is a listed monument, and it also serves as a geodetic fixed point, so the stone you lean on is quite literally part of the survey that measures the land around it.
