Zámek Bartošovice

Czechia

Zámek Bartošovice sits in the middle of the village, roughly 11 kilometres north of Nový Jičín and 9 kilometres north-west of Příbor, and it does not look its age. What you see from the front is the work of the later nineteenth century: between 1869 and 1877 the house was reworked in the manner of the Italian Neo-Renaissance, and that is the face it still wears. Underneath, though, the building carries its whole history. A late-Gothic fort was rebuilt in the Renaissance, again in the Baroque, and finally dressed in historicist detail. It has been a listed cultural monument since 1999. Be warned that the early story is thinly recorded; even the original form of the fifteenth-century fort that belonged to Drslav of Ochaby is unknown.
