zámek Kačina

Czechia

Zámek Kačina sits in open country in the cadastral area of Svatý Mikuláš, beside the road to Nové Dvory, about 6.5 kilometres north-east of Kutná Hora. It is protected as a national cultural monument and is counted among the most important Empire-style buildings in the Czech Republic. What you notice first is the scale. The building is laid out as an open horseshoe and measures 227 metres from end to end, so you cannot take it all in from one spot. Its setting came first: the surrounding park was designed in 1789 by the Viennese botanist Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin, years before the house it now frames was begun.
