zámek Konice
Czechia
Konice sits on the divide between the Zábřeh and Drahany highlands, about 21 kilometres north-west of Prostějov, and its castle occupies the south-eastern part of town. Before there was a castle here, there was a fortified manor, a tvrz, whose job was to guard the trade routes running from Moravia and Silesia into Bohemia. What you see now is a one-storey Baroque building, and it no longer guards anything. It belongs to the town, protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, and it is used for concerts, weddings and a good deal of everyday civic life.
