Zámek Ropice
Czechia
Ropice is a Baroque château in the village of the same name, in the Frýdek-Místek district of the Moravian-Silesian Region, and the first thing to understand is that you are looking at a survivor. It was built around 1700 on the site of a Renaissance fort, declared a cultural monument in 1958, and then left to fall apart anyway. In the flood of 22 June 2009 its central section collapsed. The building standing before you now, with its pilasters and ornamented window surrounds, is largely the product of a rescue that began in 2011. As of July 2023 the source records it as being for sale, having been put on the market with its surrounding land in 2021.
